Tram's reviews - Doppler Presents: Stojche

Josh Rawlings / Jun 01, 2017

After an exciting trip to Prague and experiencing an almighty showcase from the guys over at Giegling, it would have been easy to take the next few weeks off. The night had everything: the intimacy of a small club in the live show formar and the longevity of any warehouse party with Konstantin delivering way into the early hours. The night, however, left me with a void that needed filling.

Doppler, the latest addition to Cardiff's blossoming scene seemed to fit the bill, with Berlin based, Tangible Assets founder Stojche on the cards for a two hour set. His most recent release Asset 005 prescribed what the night would entail; heavy-hitting, four to the floor, Berlin techno. Just what the doctor ordered.

Having arrived in Cardiff just before opening and wading my way through the countless stags and hens I found myself at Undertone, a club easy to miss for a first timer. The space itself is intimate, appropriately lit and features a solid sound system. Kicking off the night was Doppler’s Jessie B who was joined by Cardiff regulars Mikey H and Mr.B. Their track selections were complimentary to each other, allowing each individual to showcase their styles with some welcome crossover. Jessie’s track selection stood out in particular, with the likes of Palms Trax’s Sumo Acid Crew and Fresh & Low’s New Life. As the crowd grew and the songs got heavier it was time for the trio to hand over the reigns

Stojche introduced himself with a dark ambient track and went forward with a similar vibe to material on Aniara Recordings. As the clock neared 2am the Tresor resident came into his own, shelling out the fast and heavy rollers you'd expect, all the while throwing in the odd dub track which electrified the moderately sized crowd. Stojche then closed with a firm favourite of mine: Objekt’s Ganzfeld.

The event was typical of those in towns with a small, growing scene; the crowd was supper friendly and the club's intimate feel did well to foster this. Doppler is a party with good music at its core, two real music lovers orchestrating the line ups. Next up Jessie B and her crew have booked DJ Stingray for the 2nd of June in a great setting, the perfect way to introduce you to the Doppler crew.
